October Snow

The island of Newfoundland is the most eastern province of Canada and it sits in the chilling waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. Needless to say our weather is very diverse during any season. Our lodge is located on Rainy Lake high on the Buchans Plateau at about 500m above sea level. The hunting season starts the second Saturday of September and we take clients till the end of October. Weather conditions can be all over the place during this time and can go from warm and rain to cold and snow in a blink of an eye. You have to expect every type of weather condition when on a hunt, especially here in Newfoundland. In the higher elevation areas of Newfoundland early fall snow is common but it never stays longer than a day or so. It do make for good hunting conditions because those big dark brown moose now stand out big time. So when you come to Newfoundland on a big game hunt make sure to bring clothing that can be layered, you never know when you will need it.
