Forth Trip Does The Trick

If at first you don’t succeed….try and try again!! For Joe Kay this saying couldn’t be more true. Joe is a repeat client of mine and for his first 3 moose hunting trips he went to my drive-in lodge in central Newfoundland. Now he was successful there each year but wasn’t able to get that above average trophy bull. So we began discussing my fly-in remote moose hunt to see if his chances of bagging a trophy bull be possible for him. Like I tell all my clients nothing is certain but we will try our best in the things we can control and if we get a few good days of weather we should get a nice trophy bull moose. So day one was picture perfect, clear, no wind and frosty. We reached our target hunting area at the perfect timing at about 15 minutes before daylight. We parked the argo and walked about 200 yards and got setup. I talked to Joe and gave him a briefing on where I thought the bull would come from and the importance of being quite and no movement. With Joe all setup on his shooting sticks I began making a few calls into the cool crisp fall air. Instantly I had a mature responding back to us about 150 yards away in the bush from where I told Joe he would come from. With a little calling back and forth with this bull using different calls, I was able to pull him in for a 100 yard shot. Joe made it count and finally he had the trophy bull he always wanted and it only took 15 minutes into his hunt that could have been 6 days long. Needless to say he enjoyed the rest of the week to kick back and relax!!
