Stag Party

The second week of hunting for the 2014 Newfoundland moose hunting season turned out to be the most fun week of hunting I ever had. Andy Welbourne and Todd Nelson were the two hunters this week and they had tags for two moose and one woodland caribou. Now the weather this particular week was terrible, from wet snow to warm, windy and rain….we got it all. Todd bagged his moose on Wednesday and then it was Andy’s turn for the remainder of the week. We hunted hard and all day for the rest of the week to get Andy his animals. We were seeing moose and caribou everyday but just not the caliber of animals we wanted. Heading into Saturday our last day to hunt, we awoke to rain, wind and fog. Our spirits were still high but starting to fade but at midday the weather broke and we spotted a group of caribou with what looked like a nice stag in it, so we decided to take a closer look. After a 30 minute stalk we liked what we saw and again decided to get a little closer to make sure we could get a good clean kill…and boy what a shot Andy made. After taking some good photos of Andy and his prize stag, we headed back to camp to celebrate, what a way to end a great week of Newfoundland moose hunting at Grand Lake Adventures with two guys that make hunting a blast.
